Dedupe Answers

When asking a question, Answer Engine will automatically detect if duplicate answers exist so that multiple instances of the same answer don't overpopulate the results. If a duplicate answer exists for the answer you are viewing, you can see this indicated by a plus sign (+), a number, and 'more' next to the answer's filename.

The number next to the plus sign indicates how many duplicate answers of the one you are viewing exist in the system. In the above case, there is just one. Clicking on the '+1 more' will display all of the associated duplicates:

Answers will be marked as duplicates in the system if any one of the following conditions is true:

  1. Answers share the same title.
  2. Answers share the same text. In other words, the passages' metadata is the same for different answers.
  3. Answers share the same filename AND page number. For example, two answers come from a file called examplefile.pdf, and both answers are from page 3/12 of that document.
